Jason A. Lowe led the AVOID 1 programme and is chief scientist of the AVOID 2 programme. He is Head of Mitigation Advice at the Met Office Hadley Centre and visiting Professor at the University of Reading. His research activities focus on better understanding the issue of potentially dangerous climate changes and the constraints on future pathways of emissions and climate change. Additionally Professor Lowe heads the climate knowledge integration team that helps to match the scientific findings of the Met Office Hadley Centre to the questions being asked by policy makers.
Highlights of his research career include his involvement in setting up and performing the global climate simulations that informed the first set of carbon budgets for the Committee on Climate Change, and leading the climate science component of the Thames Estuary 2100 project and the UKCP09 Marine Report. He took part in the recent expert dialogue on long-term climate goals organised by the UNFCCC and is a member of the IPCC task group on data and scenario support for impacts and climate analysis.
